South Georgian Teal in the Bay of Isle, South Georgia

Ducks and Geese and some 'bits' from southern Africa 5.01.2008 15:44

Ducks and Geese are an important part of the birdlife of South America, the Falklands and even the Island of South Georgia.

The South Georgian Teal is considered as the only (red) meat eating duck in the world. This duck feeds sometimes on the carcasses of seals or other birds. It is very likely, that this behaviour is due to the shortage of food in the harsh subantarctic climate.

The other ducks and gees of this collection are not as spectacular, but sometimes very rare and pretty.

Besides these birds, animals like Springbock or Caracaras are now online available from my collection.
